What do you need for camping?

Updated: Jan 24, 2019

Hello my name is Sue.

I am one of the owners of the Dolbrodmaeth riverside & now Bare Bones camping We decided to do the camping as we feel we are in such a beautiful spot here on the River Dovey that we just wanted to share it with you!

Welcome to my first blog here at Bare Bones Camping. I hope you enjoy reading it & find the information in it useful if so please leave a comment below I would very much appreciate it if you would. I have added affiliate links to amazon so you can purchase the items if you want them I earn a small commission for any items sold which helps me sustain our campsite Here in the Snowdonia national park.

I have put together a check list for you so hopefully you don,t miss anything, there are different forms of camping. We have chosen Bare Bones as here in the national park we just provide the campsite. We have toilets & a shower room open 24 hours a day for our lovely campers to use. I just wanted to help you campers in case you are new to camping and need a hand finding items you may need.

Ok so your camp can be as basic as you like or filled with all mod cons it is up to you. If you would like it home from home here are just a few items you may like to take with you.

So the first items on my list are furniture.

*Camping chairs & tables- can go a long way to making a nice social area outside the tent living area.

* Wind break- This can be very useful especially here as we are in a valley 500ft above sea level the wind can be blowing quite hard sometimes down the valley. They can also be used to create some privacy.

*Torch/Head torch- much needed for finding your way to the toilets late at night it can be very dark here as it is in a dark zone so no light polution.

*Bin bags leave nothing behind is our policy you can put your rubbish in our recycling bins provided & the rest of the waste in our general waste commercial bin.

So that is just a few items to get you started next lets take a look at the kitchen check list you may wish to take with you.

CAMPING KITCHEN CHECK LIST

* Wild campers will want to use a light weight stove & perhaps a single pan to eat from.

Other campers might like to use something a bit more substantial or the use of our fire pit we have created for you to use. Any way here is the check list for you to help you on your way.

Basic kitchen essentials.

Theres nothing wrong with having a basic kitchen set up its all down to what works best for you & the way you prefer to camp. To prepare basic food whilst camping I would recommend the following-

Health & safety check list

Camping here next to the river Dovey There can be a lot of insects especially at night They don,t mean to spoil your relaxing stay they are just part of nature but they can be a bit pesky. So I believe we should use natural remedies & deterrants rather than nasty chemical concoctions. here are just a few ideas of mine I hope they help you.

Bergamot essential oil mixed with a carrier oil such as almond oil is a great insect repellant & smells lovely Just put it on the parts of the skin that are showing it is also a great moisturiser. This will help keep the midges at bay. You could also drink Earl grey tea which also has bergamot in it and tastes great as well.

Citronella is also a good insect repellant, you can surround your camp with citronella burners to keep the pesky critters at bay.

I don,t how ever recommend spraying the air or yourself with chemical concoctions which are bad for the atmosphere but also very bad for you!

Other items you might like to take with you are-

*first aid kit

*Sun cream if you use it i just use coconut oil or almond oil vitimin D is good for us & we need it. If you have to use sun cream try & use ones with no nasty chemicals in I have added a couple below for you to try if you would like to purchase them.

*Anti bacterial handwash if you need it.

*Extra batteries

*Pocket knife

*If you do bring your own toilet roll not that you need too we do provide toilet roll but only use 2 ply as we have a cess pit & it gets blocked easily if thick toilet paper is used or any kind of wipes even biodegradable ones.

So now we need a tent!

You can,t go camping without the tent this is the most important part & the bedding to go inside to keep you all nice cosy & warm. I recommend you get a tent larger than what you need so you can spread out & gives you extra space.

There are a lot of differant types & styles to choose from two man tents to hugh 6 to 8 people tents. There are a lot of accessories for your tent such as awnings, porches, carpets etc. It is up to you which type & size you want to go for.We will go more in depth in another post. But at the moment we are just concentrating on what you need to take with you for your camping trip.

Campsite Gear

*Tent

*poles

* Tent foot print( ground cover for your tent)

*Extra tarp or canopy

Sleeping bags /Double blow up bed Air pump

*Sleeping mat or pad

*pillows

*Spare tent pegs bring more than you need.

*mallet

*Lantern

*Duct tape for any emergency repairs you may have to do.

*Brush to keep it all clean & tidy.

Lastly I would advise you to bring extra clothes as it can be very cold here at night as soon as the sun sets over the mountain range the temperature can drop quickly by 5 or 6 degrees very fast.

So I hope you found my first blog helpful please let me know by leaving a comment on my website or email us here at the barebonescamping@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you my next blog post will be an indepth review of differant kinds of tents for your camping trip.
